Pedro Amaro Santos

“We are what we make of our history.”

In 1992, in São Cristóvão do Muro, amid cornfields, treehouses, long roads, and afternoons spent playing in the street. He grew up in a world where the community was part of everyday life and where there was always room for one more person at the table.

Much of his childhood was spent at Dona Amélia’s house, the nanny who took in many children at once. There, the children learned to share, to wait, to help one another, and to live together. There was no television during meals, but there were stories, games, soup for everyone, bread and butter warmed in the oven, and a huge steel mug from which everyone drank.

It was in that simple and deeply human environment that a very unique way of looking at the world began to take shape...
