New collection at the Ubuntu Museum of Empathy showcases the Passil neighborhood

The Ubuntu Museum of Empathy presented the collection Voices of Passil, a series of ten episodes featuring testimonies from people who lived, grew up, or built their lives in the Passil neighborhood of Alcochete.

Through these voices, the collection brings to light the history and memory of a community, as told through lived experience and the perspective of those who know the neighborhood intimately. More than a chronological sequence of events, *Vozes do Passil* weaves a collective portrait where different memories and perspectives intersect, revealing the complexity of a community shaped by relationships, challenges, affection, and a sense of belonging.

The tour begins with Episode 0 — Voices of Passil, which introduces the people who bring the collection to life and sets the stage for the territory and the community listening that underpin the entire project.

Here are three episodes focused on identity and memory:

The collection then moves on to the structural dimensions of collective life:

  • Episode 4 — Arts and Crafts, on work, specialization, and local commerce;
  • Episode 5 — Culture and traditions, showcasing festivals, dances, folk groups, and street culture;
  • Episode 6 — Community and Mutual Support, focusing on close-knit relationships and mutual care.

Material conditions and access to resources are addressed in two complementary episodes:

  • Episode 7 — Infrastructure and Daily Life, covering water, electricity, sanitation, transportation, and communications;
  • Episode 8 — Mobility and Access to Services, focusing on schools, health care, and essential services, particularly in an aging neighborhood.

The collection concludes with Episode 9 — Change, Care, and the Future, which brings together reflections on the changes at Passil, its current challenges, and hopes for the community’s future.

The episodes will be released gradually, in step with the pace at which this collective memory is shared.
