Adilson Andrade
“I’ve learned that I can take care not only of my own child, but also of other people’s children.”
He was born in Lisbon in 1987 and grew up in Musgueira Norte, known as Vila Flor, one of the city’s largest shantytowns at the time.
It was there—amidst hardships, friendships, a sense of belonging, and resilience—that he began to forge his identity. A place that would later be demolished, taking with it not only homes, but also memories, stories, and an important part of the lives of thousands of families.
“It wasn’t just the neighborhood that disappeared. It was twenty years of history.”
After being relocated to the Loureiro neighborhood, life became even more challenging. His father left home when he was a child, and Adilson grew up practically only with his mother and sister.
My mother became everything to me.
